Updated on 23 May 2024

Attention movie lovers! Cinema Akil, an independent cinema platform dedicated to bringing quality films from around the globe to UAE, has announced the return of its fourth annual Italian Film Week. Beginning 31 May, in partnership with the Italian Cultural Institute Abu Dhabi, Cinema Akil will showcase six highly praised films brimming with captivating narratives exploring themes of identity, family bonds, and personal growth.

The program also features a retrospective of master filmmaker Roberto Rossellini, one of the neo-realist pioneers whose films have altered the landscape of cinema across the globe. This rich film roster has garnered recognition at festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Berlinale, and Rotterdam.

What To Expect At The Italian Film Week

- The festival kicks off with 'There’s Still Tomorrow', directed by Paola Cortellesi, exploring post-war Italian society's patriarchal themes.

- Nanni Moretti's 'A Brighter Tomorrow' follows, delving into a filmmaker's family ties amidst the 1956 USSR invasion of Hungary.

- The lineup features gripping family drama in 'Like Sheep Among Wolves' by Lyda Patitucci and adventurous storytelling in Alice Rohrwacher's 'La Chimera'.

- The festival also showcases unconventional love tales in 'Casablanca' by Adriano Valerio, and examines modern colonialism in 'Disco Boy' by Giacomo Abbruzzese.
