Emirati Women's Day is held annually on 28 August, and celebrates the strength and resilience of Emirati women, as well as their contributions made towards developing the UAE. 

The day was first marked in 2015 and introduced by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. 

This day was chosen for Emirati Women's Day, as on 28 August 1975, the UAE's General Women's Union was formed, which aims at empowering women while integrating them in various local, regional and international forums.
