dining celebrity chefs Gary Rhodes
Gary Rhodes
Updated on 29 June 2015

Chef Gary Rhodes' legendary dedication to his craft and relentless pursuit of perfection has placed him firmly at the forefront of today's culinary world.

Chef, restaurateur, celebrity and author; his distinguished career, tireless attention to detail and unique mastery of the 'Great British Classics' truly sets him apart. A history of stunning restaurants has won him a constellation of Michelin stars and he is consistently revered by his peers as truly 'The Chef's Chef'.

Well-known as an ambassador for British cuisine, Gary has achieved what no other chef has previously managed to do: he has re-introduced the nation to its rich gastronomic heritage and uncovered a culinary culture to rival that of any other country in the world.

Gary opened his first Dubai restaurant 'Rhodes Mezzanine' in 2007 and won a host of awards including the 'Chef's Choice' at the What's On Awards 2008, 'Best Contemporary European Restaurant' and 'Best Restaurant of the Year' at the Time Out Awards 2010, followed by 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Caterer Middle East Awards 2010. In August 2010 Gary opened Rhodes Twenty10 at Le Royal Méridien Beach Resort + Spa, to great success.

At the beginning of 2011, both Rhodes Mezzanine and Rhodes Twenty10 were recognised at the inaugural BBC Good Food Middle East Awards, scooping 'Best European Restaurant' and 'Best Newcomer of the Year' respectively. This was soon followed by the What's On Awards 2011, which saw Rhodes Twenty10 win "Favourite Steakhouse". Finally, the BBC Good Food Middle East Awards 2011, presented at the beginning of 2012, saw Rhodes Mezzanine awarded as "Best European Restaurant".

With the opening of Grosvenor House Dubai, Tower Two in September 2011, Gary unveiled Rhodes in Residence, an exclusive all-day-dining concept, featuring quintessential English Afternoon Tea – created exclusively for the hotel.

To keep up with the fast pace of Dubai, in 2013 the decision was made to close Rhodes Mezzanine and in October 2014 Gary announced the opening of Rhodes W1, a quintessentially British restaurant, bar and terrace. This highly anticipated opening brings to Dubai a modern take on wholesome British cuisine, with a causal yet chic dining experience based around great British classics, which have been masterfully elevated by Gary and his talented team.

Gary has written numerous books and presented many cookery series. Most recently he has appeared on the Good Food channel travelling and discovering the culinary secrets of India, China, the Caribbean and Italy, and continues his BBC appearance in the 'Great British Food Revival'.

Gary has also cooked on almost every continent and his list of VVIP guests include royalty, prime ministers, presidents and all the president's men! He has cooked on the QE2 and the Orient Express and achieved many personal ambitions, including cooking for Princess Diana, the Jordan Formula One team, the British team at La Mans and his beloved Manchester United.

In 2006 Gary was honoured with an OBE.
